North American indoor soccer is very distinct from futsal. Firstly, it is typically played on turf rather than a hard surface. It's also played with a normal outdoor ball. These two work together to make it much more similar to outdoor soccer than futsal.

The arena is usually larger than a futsal field, and more importantly, there are walls on the sides of the arena. You can play the ball off these walls, which adds a whole new part to the game.

North American indoor soccer, while still centered around passing, also has a lot of dribbling, especially near the sidelines. Because defenders can't force the attackers out of bounds (thanks to the walls), the strikers are more likely to try to dribble past the defender.

North American indoor soccer adds a whole new part to the game, which includes a lot of different strategy as well. It is interesting to some people and not others, so watch a game before you sign up!

Futsal is the only indoor soccer variant that is approved by FIFA, the International Federation of Football. It is played indoors on a hard field with a small, hard ball. The field does not have any walls, and is very similar to a basketball court.

Five players are on the arena at any time, counting the goalie. Unlimited substitutions are allowed, which means players go all-out for their full shift before they get off the arena!

The game is very quick, and to do well, you need to be an excellent short passer. Short passes and one-twos are vital to this game. Getting past players one on one can be effective as well, but more points are scored from passing combinations up the arena.

Since the ball doesn't bounce and is harder than a normal soccer ball, the ball stays close to the ground for essentially the full game until somebody shoots it.

Futsal is a fun game, and since it is FIFA sanctioned, there are many tournaments and competitions.

European indoor soccer is very similar to North American indoor soccer, so this is a shorter section.

European indoor soccer fields are essentially the same as North American indoor soccer courts. The difference is that in European indoor soccer, they use a futsal ball instead. This creates an interesting dynamic where there is more passing than North American indoor soccer, because the ball is more difficult to dribble.

If you live in Europe, definitely check this variant out, it's really interesting!

Also, if you're thinking about playing any form of indoor soccer, you'll definitely need some good indoor cleats. Check out this page on how indoor cleats are different from regular cleats.
